2A boys basketball: Evergreen Conference overview, predictions, top players

We’re taking an inside look at the top teams, best players, emerging X-factors and projected finish for each Class 2A boys basketball league around the state of Washington.

Here’s a look at the Class 2A Evergreen Conference:

TOP TEAM

Black Hills is the reigning EvCo champion, and while it graduated reigning conference MVP Jackson Bauer, the Wolves return two second team all-league selections in guard Avery Armin and Zach Crumley. Tumwater glistening nonleague record turns heads, but Black Hills starting league play with wins over W.F. West and Centralia positions it well through the first go-around.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Damon Gaither, who is signed to Everett Community College to play baseball, is a terrific rebounder, and the still-growing 6-foot-7 forward can shoot, too. He’s averaging a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) for Tumwater.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR

Sharpshooting 6-foot-3 guard Tyler Speck was a second team all-league selection last year, and can’t be left open – especially beyond the arc.

PREDICTED LEAGUE ORDER OF FINISH

1. Black Hills

2. Tumwater

3. W.F. West

4. Centralia

5. Aberdeen

6. Rochester
