SB Live Washington Top 25 boys basketball rankings (as of Dec. 23): Undefeated Eastside Catholic, Union occupy top two spots

Here are Scorebook Live’s all-classification Top 25 rankings for Washington high school boys basketball as of Dec. 23, 2019.

Our all-class Top 25 rankings are released weekly throughout the 2019-20 high school boys basketball season. The rankings are compiled by SB Live basketball analyst and former NBA player Dan Dickau and SB Live Washington reporter Andy Buhler.


Rankings as of Dec. 23, 2019

1. Eastside Catholic 4-0 (3A)

Beat Bishop Blanchet 94-54 ahead of its post-Christmas appearance at the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon.

2. Union 8-0 (4A)

Handed hot-start Evergreen (Vancouver) its first loss of the season, 99-63, then beat short-handed 2A power North Kitsap in the Highline College Shootout.

3. O’Dea 5-2 (3A)

Defending 3A state champs picked up its first two losses against national powers Gonzaga College High School (D.C.) and Archbishop Stepinac (N.Y.) at the City of Palms Classic in Florida.

4. Garfield 7-2 (3A)

Went 2-2 at the Iolani Classic in Hawaii to finish seventh place. Beat two local teams (Kaiser, Kalani) and lost to national schools Long Island Lutheran (NY), 66-63, and Archbishop Wood (PA), 75-70.

5. Mt. Spokane 6-0 (3A)

Defeated University 76-59 last Tuesday, doesn’t play until the Les Schwab Invitational in Portland on Jan. 3.

6. Ingraham 3-1 (3A) 

Lost a lopsided preseason game to No. 3 Eastside Catholic, 87-55, then beat Cleveland 60-54.

7. Mount Si 3-2 (4A)

Rebounded a loss to No. 4 Union by beating Eastlake, 70-41, and Newport, 82-49.

8. Federal Way 8-0 (4A)

The Eagles are rolling into the T-Town Throwdown with four convincing wins against Foss, Decatur, Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln.

9. Seattle Prep 6-2 (3A)

The Panthers won the San Luis Obispo’s Mission Prep Christmas Classic, picking up four wins over Cypress Bay (Fla.), Mission Prep (Calif.), San Joaquin (Calif.) and Bishop Montgomery (Calif.).

10. Olympia 5-2 (4A)

The Bears have won four straight, most recently beating Curtis, Emerald Ridge and Camas — all convincingly. 

11. Rainier Beach 4-3 (3A)

Finished fifth at the Mission Prep Christmas Classic in San Luis Obispo, Calif. — 2-2 — after a close 80-78 loss to West Seattle. 

12. Skyview 6-1 (4A) 

After an opening night loss to Evergreen, the Storm are winners of six straight, most recently Fort Vancouver, Wilson and Timberline. They begin the Cactus Jam in Phoenix on Thursday.

13. Gonzaga Prep 5-3 (4A)

After challenging itself in an east coast tournament, the Bullpups breezed past Rogers (77-27) and Lewis and Clark (61-41).

14. Battle Ground 6-2 (4A)

Lost to streaking 3A side Evergreen, 59-51, then rebounded by beating neighboring rival Prairie, 59-54. But the big test lies ahead on Thursday: the Les Schwab Invitational. 

15. Puyallup 6-1 (4A) 

Two comfortable wins over Emerald Ridge, 61-40, and Rogers (Puyallup), 56-37, ahead of Thursday’s T-Town Throwdown.

16. Central Valley 6-1 (4A)

The Bears made it known they can play on opening night with a win over defending GSL and 4A champ Gonzaga Prep. Last week, they picked up two more wins over Mead and Ferris entering the Fort Vancouver Holiday tournament on Thursday.

17. Sumner (6-1) (4A)

Notched three wins last week, including a close 53-51 tilt at Curtis to make six straight wins after an opening night loss to Puyallup.

18. North Kitsap 5-2 (2A)

The Vikings took some lumps, losing their first game of the season to Port Angeles, 65-64, whooped Olympic then lost to top-ranked 4A team Union, 87-68, without preseason all-state selection Shaa Humphrey, to prepare for the Sundome Shootout. 

19. Kentwood 6-2 (4A)

Picked up wins over Tahoma, Kentridge and Issaquah entering Kennedy Catholic’s Sterling Christmas Shootout.

20. Wilson 5-1 (3A) 

Went 2-1 last week beating Spanaway Lake and Lincoln, before picking up its first loss to Skyview, 70-64.

21. Lynden 4-1 (2A)

The new-look Lions are learning to to play together. They beat Mount Baker and Sedro-Woolley ahead of the Sundome Shootout.

22. Evergreen (Vancouver) 5-1 (3A)

Picked up a momentous and definitive win over Battle Ground before being throttled by Union, the top-ranked 4A team, by 36.

23. Kings 4-3 (1A)

Went 2-2 last week. Lost by one to Tumwater and most notably La Center, 46-45, on Friday before rebounding with a win over Kent Meridian.

24. Auburn 6-1 (4A)

Picked up wins over Enumclaw and Auburn Mountainview.

25. Gig Harbor 7-1 (3A)

Beat Shelton and two teams from Hawaii in a holiday tournament, before losing its first game of the season to Trabuca Hills (Calif.).
